Verbier is an alpine village in the South-Western part of the Swiss Alps. Aside from being known for its winter wonderland scenery and world class skiing, the summer months offer incredible hiking, mountain biking and exploring.

Stay: The Lodge Verbier

The Lodge is Richard Branson’s stunning nine bedroom chalet in Verbier, Switzerland – one of the Alp’s most exclusive resorts.

Included in our stay was breakfast, a light lunch, and a family style dinner, along with drinks which included an impressive wine list.  I especially enjoyed the dinners in the main room – where you meet other guests, or have a private dining experience if you rent out the entire lodge. We made some wonderful new friends at dinner, and the food was excellent, relying on fresh local fare.

Their was a dedicated staff to look after us, and you get to know the staff who are all very knowledgable about the area, and were attentive throughout our stay.

The lodge boasts spectacular views and a great ambiance – very cozy and chic. It is also a great place to bring your whole family, and there is a great room to play pool and watch TV for the kids, plus an indoor pool.

The staff recommended a picnic in the mountains, which they coordinated beautifully with a lovely spread of sandwiches, cheeses, veggies, nuts and champagne. It was a short but beautiful drive from The Lodge. A driver took us up to the perfect spot, and setup the spread, then returned a few hours later to pick us up.

Verbier is so near to France, many people speak French as well, and there is a french influence in both the food and culture in the alpine town.

Finally, let’s get to the Raclette!

I have an undying love of cheese. I would dare to say I am truly passionate about it. One of the best surprises on my trip through Switzerland was something I had never even heard of before, Raclette! It’s a Swiss dish of hot, melted cheese scraped off from the melted part of the cheese, and served with potatoes, various vegetables and bread.

It was heavenly! We asked around for the best place to get Raclette, and found the sweetest tavern – here is a video from the delicious and truly unforgettable meal.

Don’t miss a trip to the local market, in the heart of Verbier. We found so much beautiful fresh produce and local delicacies, like these dried fruits, cheeses and spices.

From Verbier we took a day trip and drove over the French Alps to the small but bustling town Annecy, France. It was a hot summer day, and what a contrast to the quiet, calm, serene town of Verbier in the summer, Annecy was brimming with people, the cafés were packed and the cobblestone alleys were filled with pastel painted buildings and French charm. We took a stroll around the beautiful nearby lake that had paddle boats for rent.

I cannot wait to go back to Verbier and visit again in the winter months.

xx, Sarah
